“Everyone is invited to celebrate the 15th Klein Karoo Klassique in Oudtshoorn this weekend from Friday 9 to Sunday 11 August!”

“It is incredible to think that what started as a small niche festival, grew into an institution on the South African music calendar over the years. We are very excited to celebrate this milestone year with both our loyal and new festivalgoers. Not only can exceptional musicians and recitals be experienced here, but the festival is also a wonderful opportunity to enjoy the beauty of the Klein Karoo.”

These are the words of Hugo Theart, CEO and Artistic Director of the KKNK, presenter of Klein Karoo Klassique.

“Over the past 15 years Klassique has been established as a top destination for classical music enthusiasts, showcasing the talents of both established artists and emerging talent. This year’s festival is no exception, with a diverse programme of chamber music, opera, a choir and much more.”

Gerrie Lemmer, CEO of Culture at the ATKV, says classical music is fundamental to the existence of the ATKV. “It enriches and inspires us, while it promotes creativity and unites communities.”

“Klein Karoo Klassique is an exceptional opportunity for the ATKV and strategic partners to celebrate classical music in a proudly South Africa way. Our hope is that our support will emphasise the variety of general advantages of classical music.”

“This festival is about much more than just classical music and presents a unique gathering for festivalgoers in the Klein Karoo for an unforgettable cultural experience which also includes visual arts, and food and wine experiences,” Lemmer says.

In addition to the full music programme and discussions with artists that are presented, an area to relax is created in the Banqueting Hall. Delicious breakfast, lunch and dinner is served daily by Nostalgie Restaurant. Coffee from Beans About Coffee from the Klein Karoo is available and MCC by Le Lude and wines by Alvi’s Drift can be tasted and enjoyed here. Handmade chocolates from La Chocolaterie Rococo are also available.

Riaan Marais, Cellar Master at Alvi’s Drift, presents wine tastings of their award-winning wines. This selection includes their Chenin Blanc, Sauvignon Blanc, Special Cuvee Red Blend and Pinotage from the 221 range, as well as three white wines and a red wine from their Reserve range.

Books and classical music CDs and DVDs are on sale in the area, and the Oudtshoorn ReWOLusie offer festivalgoers the opportunity to knit and crochet squares that are transformed into blankets after the festival. Other blankets knitted and crocheted by the initiative are available for festivalgoers to stay warm during recitals in the Civic Centre. Blankets and ReWOLusie coffee table books are available for a donation to the project. Donations of wool are always welcome.

This winter festival is presented by the KKNK, made possible by the Rupert Music Foundation and the ATKV, with the support of Le Lude and the Oudtshoorn Municipality.
