René’s art captures the essence of colour and light through her impressionist impasto technique. “I love the heaviness of the paint on my brush, not mixing it on my palette, but rather on my canvas, not knowing exactly how the wet paint colours will interact with one another on the canvas. An element of surprise in the control of my brush stroke.”
Since 2023 René spends her time full-time in the world of art. As a member of SCAVA, she now serves as the chairperson, passionately promoting the visual arts in the South Cape region. She curated and participated as an artist in multiple “Friends & I” exhibitions. René is also the founding member of Attic Atelier and the curator of the visual arts for Klein Karoo Klassique 2025.
“For the Love of Colour” defines René’s artistic journey, and she continues to inspire and engage with fellow artists and art enthusiasts through her monthly “Coffee with local Artists” gatherings.

Sacred Pulse lives in the spaces where frequency becomes vision — and for me it is in the quiet architecture of a sunflower. Through the paintings Involucre, Inner Being, and With Adoration, I enter into dialogue with the living rhythm of this flower: a rhythm that echoes not only the cycles of growth and blooming, but also the deeper frequencies of form, texture, and emotion.
Across all three works, the inner patterning of the sunflower — its spiral geometry, its repeated motifs — becomes a visual pulse. They are not static — they move, sing, breathe. Through them, I offer a visual meditation on the sacred rhythms that structure life — seen through the quiet majesty of a flower, felt through the harmony of form, colour and brushstrokes, and heard through the silent music that underlies all things.
These works reflect on the deep interconnectedness between nature and artistic expression whether through visual art or music.
