Chantal Gerber

Chantal, a George-based artist, creates works that reflect her surroundings and personal experiences, encompassing joy while always retaining an element of fantasy.

Chantal believes every artist has a language of their own and their ability to portray an exact moment in time is what separates the great masters from the rest. “If you are successful in your attempt to share abstract qualities of the visual – such as emotion or weather etc. in a pleasurable image – you have achieved time travel in a sense … a moment frozen in time and never lost! How could one not long to be part of something that profound?”

Chantal is a member of Attic Atelier, a collective consisting of a group of artists who are passionate about providing a space where art can flourish and grow and has participated in in multiple “Friends & I” exhibitions.

“The meaning of life is to find your gift. The purpose of life is to give it away.” – Pablo Picasso

In the Key of Light

The Key of Light is the unifying concept that flows through my collection of abstract mixed media and acrylic paintings. Through vibrant colour, richly layered textures, crackle finishes, and expressive contrasts, I explore the dialogue between darkness and light. Each painting reveals a different stage of the journey, where light emerges not as the absence of darkness, but because of it. Together, the works create a cohesive visual narrative that celebrates hope, resilience, transformation, and the beauty found within life’s complexities. Through every layer, texture, and colour, The Key of Light invites the viewer to discover that light is not only something we see, but something we experience.
