Originally a graphic art graduate from Cape Town (Cape Technikon 1991, majoring in Printmaking and Photography), Lisl went on to live and set up her studio on the remote Cape Nature reserve, Gamkaberg, in the Klein Karoo. For 24 years, from 1993, she lived there with her nature conservationist husband (and after 10 years, their two children) and from this unique environment in the natural world, along with her growing interest in ecological, Lisl drew inspiration for her work. Her graphic design background (pre digital technology) honed her eye to the graphic interplay of line, colours, and shapes; to the energetic struggles and tensions that are created through these elements, and the playful, random dances between light and dark. Lisl is drawn to the patterns that emerge from this – in nature, in human relationships, and in society. She now lives and has a studio in Oudtshoorn.
