WITH Féroll-Jon Davids (clarinet), Ralitza Macheva (violin), Azra Isaacs (viola) and Rosamund Roth (cello)
Inspired by the fleeting nature of travel, Postcards journeys across continents, time periods and musical genres, bringing together a sonic snapshot of chamber music from around the globe for clarinet and string trio. Featuring an array of instrumental combinations, including clarinet and viola, string trio, clarinet and cello, and violin and cello, Postcards celebrates the conversations between instruments through distinct “musical postcards” filled with evocative imagery, atmosphere and colour. The programme moves effortlessly between brilliance and intimacy: from the Classical elegance of Bernhard Crusell, the folk-inspired textures of Zoltán Kodály and the richly expressive duo writing of British composer Rebecca Clarke, to Sibelius’ Water DropletsThe journey continues with the meditative depth of Latvian composer Pēteris Vasks’ Castillo Interior and the poignant Leaving Africa by South African composer Péter Louis van Dijk. The recital concludes with the fiery spirit of Astor Piazzolla and Béla Kovács, bringing rhythmic vitality, wit and virtuosity to the stage. The recital is followed by a free music discussion with the artists upstairs in the Banqueting Hall.
