Before it’s gone
Every historic building carries its own rhythm. The sandstone churches, Victorian homes, old railway stations, and forgotten streets of the Klein Karoo have witnessed celebrations, hardship, and everyday life. Today many stand quietly, weathered by time and gradually disappearing from our landscape.

This collection explores these places through light. Rather than documenting architecture alone, each painting becomes an interpretation of atmosphere – the changing light across sandstone walls, long afternoon shadows, reflections after rain, and the silence that settles over historic streets.

Inspired by the theme In the Key of Light, the works invite viewers to experience architecture as music. Colour becomes melody. Brushstrokes create rhythm. Light conducts emotion. Each composition asks a simple question: What music do you hear when you look at this place?

My paintings celebrate the architectural heritage of the Klein Karoo while reminding us that preservation begins with remembering. Every painting is both a historical record and an emotional landscape – a conversation between memory, light, and place.
