Tranquil Mountain Pool

Brahm van Zyl

Born in Windhoek, Namibia, Brahm matriculated from Overkruin High School, Pretoria and studied Fine Arts at the University of Pretoria under Prof. Nico Roos.

Brahm has exhibited extensively in group and solo exhibitions; his first solo exhibition was held at the Pierneef Museum, Pretoria, in 1986.

Best known for landscape painting, Brahm explores the transient nature of the South African Karoo, focusing on the dialogue between nature’s enduring forces and the impermanence of human intervention. This theme is central to his acclaimed drift series, documenting the historic drifts of Meiringspoort, regarded as an important heritage project.

Major solo exhibitions include Huis, Paleis, Pondok…, Habitat, Hinterland, and Russtop. Recently he co-curated Praatland at KKNK 2026. A prolific sculptor in bronze and steel, his public works are on Table Mountain, at the Voortrekker Monument, and Die Punt, Mossel Bay. He has also enjoyed a distinguished career as a sculptor in the film industry and was appointed Art Director for projects including Ratanga Junction (Cape Town) and Ibn Batutha Mall (Dubai).
