Kala was born in Namibia and grew up in South Africa. In 2008 she moved to George and started painting full-time. Her impressionistic oil paintings are representational seascapes, florals, and street scenes from life and the occasional portrait.
“There is no extraordinary rationale why I paint. I love all aspects of the creative process, the materials, the planning and preparing, the act of painting, of telling a story. Curiosity drives me, painting has become the ultimate unsolvable puzzle, a way of communicating. I simply must paint.”

The ocean is like a symphony with a never-ending rhythm. The swell and surge of waves breaking on the beach, drawing back, and then crashing onto the rocks. The nuanced colour of the shimmering foam ever-changing and shifting in a lyrical dance.
Early in the morning the waves glisten in soft pastel colours highlighted in silver sparks and the sound of the waves thunder through the stillness of the break of dawn.

At sunset, the water glistens in rich autumn gold and copper colours, echoing the flaming sky. The waves seem to quiet down, ready to welcome the coming night.
