François Tiran, his work opulent and sensual, believes in “less is a bore.” Nuances reminiscent of Klimt and Hundertwasser are offset by earthiness reflecting the sandstone edifices of his home. He is a philosophical scientific mind, with a passion for the female form and generous use of deep reds and golds. With ancestral roots in France, but a family history dating back almost 200 years in this area, much of his work is informed by the rich contrasts of life in Oudtshoorn. His style, abstract symbolism, are in oils, pastels, sculpture, and use of mixed media.

François an art lecturer for 22 years, before becoming an artist full time, has exhibited for 10 years continuously with ArtKaroo and Bottega Gallery in Oudtshoorn, and in Stellenbosch, Worcester, George.
