‘Free for All’ forms part of an ongoing body of work developed during my five years of living in Kannaland, where I use self-portraiture alongside the recurring presence of Towerkop to explore the relationship between body, landscape and place. I see this as a way of honouring the landscape that has become both home and teacher. Created for In the Key of Light, ‘Free for All’ brings this chapter of my practice to a close.

The work brings together body, landscape, light and shadow through gesture and movement. The figures move through the landscape with openness and expression, as though carried by the music of the place itself. Here, landscape becomes music, the body an instrument. Light becomes both illumination and a way of seeing, while shadow is embraced as an essential part of the experience.

Rather than offering answers, ‘Free for All’ offers possibility – an invitation to imagine what becomes possible when we allow ourselves to belong more fully to ourselves and to the landscapes that shape us.
