Lida Grobler

Lida Grobler is a local Plettenberg Bay artist who believes that anything can become a painting – if we take the time to observe. A self-taught creator, she explores patterns, lines, shadows, and depth, bringing realism to life with undertones of abstract and contemporary influence. Specialising in portraits, animals, and intricate landscapes, she transforms blank canvases into stories that breathe.

Working with oil, acrylic, and charcoal, Lida captures emotions, movement, and reality in a seamless blend of form and skill. She lives on a small farm with her husband, surrounded by the animals she loves – horses, dogs, and donkeys – where inspiration is always within reach.

“Anything can become a painting – if we take the time to observe.”

In the Key of Light

“The ears force the eyes to see what is not in front of them. Like in life, we have light and dark … so be it in art. Light illuminates part of my paintings while the dark leaves you to imagine what lies underneath.”

Twins – this duo in acrylics was inspired by Vivaldi’s Four Seasons: Summer. You hear repetition that is well known as ritornello… that concept that led me to create the duo. You experience “Ritornello”, like the twins that are almost the same but because you are not a hundred percent sure, your eyes follow the “Key of Light” to take you back from where you started.
